Most people don’t much care for the DMV. In fact, when asked to compare to the DMV to another office that they sometimes visit, it was most often compared to the dentist office or a medical checkup. While it’s not pleasant to head into an office that you’ll be waiting in for an extended period, there are certain times that you can head into the DMV that will offer you a better experience than others. Once you know about those times, you can plan your visit accordingly and get in and out very quickly.
Best Time to Go
There are three factors that you have to consider when going to the DMV. The time of day, the time of the week and the time of the month. Pick out the right time for each of these, and you’ll get through the DMV much faster. It makes sense to head to the DMV early because there is always a greater surge of people at lunchtime or after. You should also head in mid-week. Monday and Friday are prime days, so as long as you pick Tuesday through Thursday, you can beat the rush of those prime days. As with the week, you should also shoot for mid-month as you plan your visit. People often head in at the end of the month, right before items expire and it’s also common to go at the beginning of the month after documents have just expired.
So, head into the DMV in the middle of the week, in the middle of the month and on the morning of that day. If you do, it will feel like just a cleaning and not a root canal.
Worst Time to Go
If mid-week is the best time for a visit, the first or last day of the week is worst. For whatever reason, these are the two most common times for visitors to come in and try to take care of things. You also need to avoid the first and last week of the month to miss the people who put off renewing registrations and license plates until the last minute, as well as those who remembered a little too late. Finally, avoiding the DMV between noon and 2 PM is a good strategy due to the number of people trying to get their business done on their lunch hour.
While most would rather that a trip to the DMV would never appear on their to-do list, sometimes a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. Pick the best time to make your trip and make it at least a little less of a beating.
