Clean Up Your NY Driving Record Fast: Save Time and Money!

Here are the steps you need to follow to receive the benefits of a NY DMV-approved PIRP course:

If you have received a ticket:

1. Contact your court to confirm eligibility for the PIRP program. Eligibility is based on violation type and time since completing your last course.
2. Enroll in and complete a PIRP course through a New York Department of Motor Vehicles approved provider prior to your scheduled hearing date.
3. Obtain a course completion certificate from the PIRP provider upon finishing all course materials.
4. File the original completion certificate with the court handling your traffic citation before the scheduled hearing.
5. Present a copy of the completion certificate to the judge/prosecutor when attending your hearing.
6. Pay any administrative court fees or remaining fines per the outcome of your case. Dismissal or reduction of fines varies.
7. Confirm any adjustments made to the traffic citation charges and points assessed against your driver’s license with the court and NY DMV.
8. If all requirements are met, up to 4 points may be reduced from your license record. The traffic citation may also potentially be reduced to a lesser charge or dismissed entirely.Submit a copy of your completion certificate to your auto insurance carrier to receive a discount on premiums.

Check your license status on the NY DMV website approximately 10 weeks after finishing the to ensure your reduced point total has been posted.

If you are taking the course for insurance discount ONLY:

1. Enroll in and complete a PIRP course through a NY DMV-approved provider. Ensure the provider submits notification electronically.
2. Obtain a completion certificate from the provider as proof of finishing the course materials.
3. Present certificate to auto insurance carrier within 90 days of PIRP course completion to receive premium discount.
