How PIRP Makes Things Better

“PIRP” is an acronym for a driving course that is New York unique (try saying that five times fast!). PIRP stands for Point and Insurance Reduction Program, but how does it work?

Imagine PIRP as a lifeline offered by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). It lets you fix your driving record by taking a special defensive driving course that’s approved by them.

With PIRP, you can wave goodbye to up to 4 points from your license. It’s like magic, but with a little paperwork. This trick helps you avoid reaching 11 points—when your license could get suspended.

But wait, there’s more! After completing the course, you might get a 10% discount on your auto insurance for 3 years. It’s like a reward for driving responsibly.

Who Can Use PIRP?

PIRP is like a superhero for people who have a few driving slip-ups. If you’re close to having too many points (11 is the limit), PIRP can come to your rescue. It keeps your license safe from being taken away.

Here are some things to know about PIRP:

Remember, PIRP doesn’t make points disappear faster. They’ll stick around on your record for at least 18 months.
